ABSTRACT
Fast dissolving tablets rapidly disperses before being swallowed, serves to highlight their expanding significance. It is made by various types of polymers. Natural polymers are chosen over synthetic polymers because they are more effective and safe. This study deals with formulation evaluation of fast dissolving tablets of lamivudine using natural polymers. The drug was firstly subjected to preformulation studies and then fast dissolving tablets were performed using natural polymers. Further it was evaluated for various parameters. Results showed that the bulk density and the tapped density for all the formulations varied from 0.315 to 0.348gm/cm3 and 0.425 to 0.436gm/cm3 respectively. The result of Hausner’s ratio of all formulations ranges from 1.307 to 1.387. The results of the Compressibility index of all the formulations ranges from 24.769% to 27.752%. Formulation F6 found to have high drug content of 99.45±0.22%, with thickness of 2.4±0.2mm, Weight variation of 253±3 %. The % friability & hardness of F6 was found to be 0.685±0.015% and 3.3±0.1 Kg/cm 2 respectively. The disintegration time for F6 was found to be lowest which is 35±2 seconds. The Cumulative % Drug Release was found to be increased with increase in time. Regression analysis data indicates it follows first order kinetics. So, from the results it can be concluded that fast dissolving tablets of lamivudine was prepared successfully using natural polymers possessing all the desired characteristics.
