ABSTRACT
Thus, this study explores anti-inflammatory activity of Terminalia bellerica. The plant material was collected & tested for various parameters followed by in vivo anti -inflammatory study. The results showed that the loss on drying for Terminalia bellirica (Leaves) were found to be less than 10.0% w/w. The total Ash values nearly less than 5.0% w/w. The acid insoluble ash values was found to be less than 1.0% w/w. Aqueous soluble and ethanol, methanol and chloroform soluble extractive value were found to be 2.24% w/w, 2.26% w/w, 1.89% w/w and 2.38 %w/w respectively. Moisture content of plant leaves of Terminalia bellirica was found to be 8.21%w/w. The pet ether & hydroalcoholic extract found to have percentage yield of 11.25% & 14.57% respectively. The extract of Terminalia bellirica was carried out and the results shows that the, tannin was absent in the extract whereas flavonoid, Phenols, carbohydrate, saponins and glycosides were present. Total phenol & flavonoid content was found to be 0.865 mg/100mg & 0.275 mg/100mg The 200 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg Hydroalcoholic extract of Terminalia bellirica showed significant inhibition of paw edema. Maximum percentage of inhibition of edema for the Hydroalcoholic extract of Terminalia bellirica was observed after 4-hour injection of Carrageenan by 200, and 300 mg/kg oral dose of Hydroalcoholic extract with their respective value 60.09% and 63.38%. From the results it can be summarized that Terminalia bellirica have appreciable anti -inflammatory activity.
